Why is the 57-year edition of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms so precious? Fortunately, it’s back in the world.
The comic book Romance of the Three Kingdoms was born in 1950s, and the hot picture book is the memory of a generation. But at present, the 1957 edition is rare. Fortunately, recently, Shanghai People’s Fine Arts Publishing House released the 1957 edition of Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

The inside page of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms is the first edition in 1957 on the left and the second edition on the right.
The comic book Romance of the Three Kingdoms was born in the 1950s. You lend me picture books, and I lend you picture books. From renting book stands on the street to the library, the intricate character stories such as "Peach Blossom", "Changbanpo" and "Anti-Western Cool" have been passed down from generation to generation. Since the publication of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, there have been several revisions, among which the first edition to the second edition has changed the most.
The reason why the 1957 edition of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms is so touching is that in the historical background shortly after liberation at that time, more than 30 painters such as Cheng Shifa, Liu Danzhai, Liu Xiyong, Zhao Sandao, Chen Guangyi and Xu Zhengping were concentrated in the creation of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, all of whom were famous masters of Chinese painting and masters of comic books in Shanghai. Mr. He Tianjian, a master of Chinese painting, wrote the title of each book, and the bright red shape on one side of each comic book was different. All of them are from the hands of seal engravers such as Mr. Bing, etc. These factors make the 1957 edition of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, which includes 6941 pictures and 60 volumes, an insurmountable monument.
However, in the second edition of 1963, all the idealistic things in the adapted Romance of the Three Kingdoms were eliminated, and Zhuge Liang’s dedication was even more prominent. Originally, the cover of Wu Zhangyuan, which was invented by Zhuge Liang without an engine, was changed to a group portrait of Zhuge Liang and others to emphasize Zhuge Liang’s wisdom and weaken Zhuge Liang’s ". After the second edition, the first edition in 1957 disappeared. Since then, there have been two revisions and five editions. At present, the 1957 edition is rare, and a complete collection has become a "rare treasure".

Recently, Shanghai People’s Fine Arts Publishing House concentrated on the original 1957 edition of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, which was reorganized and published, so that this monumental work, which had been retired for a long time, reappeared in its original appearance. At present, there are still many doubts about the survival and development of comic books, which is tantamount to a song of memories of the glorious past of comic books.
Chen Yuanshan, the editor who presided over the reprint of this set of books, told the reporter of The Paper (www.thepaper.cn): "We have carefully organized the repair of the missing drawings caused by historical reasons to restore the handwriting. In view of the improper complexity and mixed use of the original book, which is a standardized text, this unification is changed to simplified. Our purpose is to organize, not simply copy. "
Wen Zeyuan, president of Shanghai People’s Fine Arts Publishing House, believes that there is still hope for the future of comic books: "In a literary word, in the past, we talked about literature from generation to generation, saying that Chu Ci, Han Fu, Tang Poetry and Song Poetry, and Yuan Qu novels. Comic books had the glory of that year, and we have to admit this reality. This art form can’t win the world, and it has changed to some extent. Then we also have to admit another reality. For example, the appearance of Song Ci can’t hide the brilliance of Tang poetry. Now that you say that the picture book has come out, it can’t erase the artistic value of comic books. But you can’t deny that comic books can’t make all the children say,’ Now we don’t read picture books, so we read comic books.’ "
Wen Zeyuan admits that reprinting the 57th edition of The Romance of The Three Kingdoms is a need of collection in a more sense: "In fact, reprinting the old things is also in response to everyone’s needs, and some comic book lovers like the old ones, so there are nearly 100 kinds of comic books in our People’s Fine Arts Publishing House every year, which should be reprinted continuously every year. If you want to publish a new one, no matter whether it is good or bad, buyers will not buy it because they want to collect the old one, which is the need of collection. "

Due to an oversight, there were some mistakes and omissions in the 1957 edition. In this version, it has been corrected.
